Macro Monday

Insects, anyone?
Spring is here and so are the bugs.
Here are some of my favorites from the last week.

Here is our Zebra Swallowtail Butterfly. Notice his red antennae.

I believe this to be a Spicebush Swallowtail.

Here is the underside of the same individual.

I think this is a female Twelve-spotted Skimmer.

Okay, I admit it. The above is an arachnid, not an insect.
I had never seen a red spider before.

This is a Six-spotted Tiger Beetle.
According to Enature, these guys bite. I didn't handle him to find out.

Stop by Lisa's Chaos to see what others have to share this Monday.

Edited to add more spider pictures:

  1. GAH! I'm so jealous! I'm gonna have to go hiking in the woods to find me some interesting guys to photograph. Very nice shots, Susan!

  2. I love your shots! I have taken so many dragonflies but none of that look like that.

The red bug looks like an insect caught on the web. Antenna plus 6 legs equal 8. No?

The Tiger Beetle is gorgeous. I have some Jewel Beetles. Almost the same shade.

  3. Thanks!
I have been out to check on my little spider this morning. He's still on the same blackberry cane. He's definitely got eight legs, but he's so tiny, he's hard to photograph. If he weren't on and off of a web, and he were even smaller, I'd think he was a chigger.
