Sweet Shot Tuesday

I took some pictures at the park yesterday. These baby Canada Geese were just adorable foraging. Mom and Dad stayed nearby and made us all keep our distance. I wasn't nearly as close as this pic makes it appear.

"Look but don't touch. Got it?"

Sweet Tweet Tuesday, um Sweet Shot Tuesday

life with my 3 boybarians

Near the end of my thrilling day of the bluebird, this little guy came and sat on the chair just outside the window. He actually did this twice. The first time, my memory card was full! I didn't dare get up to get another card. The second time, however, I was able to capture him. Only four shots turned out at all. Here is my favorite.

Sweet Shot Tuesday

life with my 3 boybarians

Yesterday, after playing in the snow, my little guy just collapsed in my mom's lap. Well, he didn't actually fall asleep until the terrible socks were removed. He does not like socks. Fifteen minutes out of the bath and his feet are dirty again.

Thanks to Courtney for the inspiration of this foot shot.

Squirrely Sweet Shot Tuesday

I hadn't intended to be away from blogging for this long, but in addition to all the Thanksgiving stuff, I have been playing with my new toy. It's a Nokia N800. It's supposed to be an internet tablet, but I'm using it primarily as an e-reader. It's just the right size and not an iPod. I couldn't be happier with it. So, when I haven't been cooking, cleaning, or eating, I've been reading.
I have hardly taken any pictures as a result. But yesterday, as the light was dying, I spied this Gray Squirrel on my deck.

I've always been a bit squirrelly. It runs in my family. Some lovers of birds resent the squirrel's seed consumption, but not us. Around here, we have Gray Squirrels and Fox Squirrels. The Fox Squirrels aren't they type to come up to the deck to eat unless the weather is really rotten. Nearby areas even have Chipmunks, but not Shakerag.

We also have Flying Squirrels, but due to being nocturnal, they aren't often seen. As kids, we used to feed them peanut butter off our fingers. A few years ago, I did have the opportunity to photograph a Flying Squirrel.
These were taken with my first digital camera, an HP something or other.

The Flying Squirrel in these photos had been napping in the bluebird box. These were taken on a beautiful, sunny day in the early spring in 2006.

Sweet Tweet Tuesday, um Sweet Shot Tuesday

The weather has been simply wonderful the last few days! Cool nights with warm, sunny days. My kind of weather. The hummingbird feeders are finally in and the seed feeders are full of seed once more. When new feeders are put out, it's always the same three cohorts who are the first to arrive. Invariably, the Carolina Chickadee, Tufted Titmouse, and White-breasted Nuthatch come to sample the sunflower. The only thing that changes is their order of appearance.
All three of these small seed-eaters are friendly, quick, and
tolerant of humans.
They are smart enough to know from whence comes their seed.
In some ways, nuthatches are my favorites of the three. They "fuss" at each other and seem to be very clown-like in behavior.

I had about five minutes of kid-free time yesterday,
and I shot this little nuthatch.
In editing, I had a problem. The afternoon sun was shining over the house and into the woods, but my subject was in the shade of the house. So, my initial edit looked too fantastic to be real, but it really did look more like that than the more muted edits. The woods were on fire in the sun. Late afternoon is always my favorite time of day to watch my woods. Morning is my favorite time to be out in it all.

See his little tongue?

Posing for me

Seed selection is a very serious business.

Here's the more muted edit of the first one.

I also have to talk about my bird feeder. I have nicer, newer feeders. But this old feeder has character. It was built by my grandfather during a coal miner's strike in the sixties. Yes, my bird feeder is older than my husband!
It needs some work, but I love it. I'll include a picture of my entire feeder soon, I'm sure.

As always, feel free to click on any of the images for a closer look.

Sweet Shot Day

Yesterday, we were picking up Mom from her house and I noticed some movement in the back of Mom's car. It was a Tufted Titmouse. The front windows on the car were rolled down, but the back ones were up, and the poor little guy couldn't figure out how to escape. Opening the doors didn't even help. So, I crawled in and found him huddled under the driver's seat. Upon removal, he was unable to fly, but he perked up after only two photographs. As I was moving in for my third shot, he flew up to the maple tree. He was gone from there after just a few moments. Anyone who has ever seen one of these birds knows how quick they are.
So, here is my sweet, tweet shot of a Tufted Titmouse.

As always, you can click on the image for a closer look.

I hope to back with with you tomorrow for Black and White Wednesday. I'm getting back into the blogging swing of things, I hope.
