Morning, all! Any one in the mood for some frosted blue berries? Before you answer, I should warn you that these are juniper berries frosted with ice, not blueberries frosted with sugar. No takers but the birds? Well, that's okay. I think they are pretty even though I don't eat them either.
Don't forget to buy your black-eyed peas for New Year's Day!
And check out
They look lovely all frosted up like that.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the tradition with black eyed peas?
Black-eyed peas are supposed to be eaten on New Year's Day for good luck throughout the year. It's done throughout the southern U.S. My great-grandmother wasn't superstitious about much, but that was one thing she was superstitious about. I'm not superstitious at all, but it's a nice reminder of Mammie.
ReplyDeleteIncidentally, she said one shouldn't wash clothes on the first of the year or you'd be wound in your shroud before the next year.
It's also bad luck to take down Christmas decorations before New Year's Day.
I'm glad you liked the berries!
Love the black eyed peas,,,, or at least the tradition of it. :) We eat corn beef and cabbage and potatos..from y Irish relatives, although it must be an Irish American tradition not an Irish one...

ReplyDeleteOH! SOMEONE ELS EWHO KNOWS ABOUT THE BLACK EYED PEAS! But also we eat cabbage for wealth and bacon for health then black eyed peas for luck! So it makes a nice meal together topped off with a bige ole chunk of cornbread!

Lovely image. Not heard of the black eyed peas tradition, although they're not that common an ingredient over here so I'm not surprised really! Have a wonderful 2011. xx
ReplyDeleteLove the contrast!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if my juniper berries are frosted? It's about 17 degrees here in early afternoon, and I'm not in the mood to wander out and see. ;-) This is a wonderful shot....love the colors and the contrast.
