Blue Macro Monday

Smiling Sally

MM3

A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of bluebirds visiting my deck again. I've been looking for them every day since then, but they haven't returned. Yet.
Today, I thought I'd share a few of the 1000+ photos I took that day. Some were pretty good, in my opinion. Most were not. But they were all thrilling.

This is the closest I have to a true macro shot.

In most places, this is a good time to put up bluebird nesting boxes. I just put up one box and have two others to put up soon. Bluebird boxes can be bought many places, but I found our local Lowe's had a super price on them. If you like bluebirds and dislike bugs, I highly recommend placing nesting boxes around your property. Around here, if you don't wind up with a family of bluebirds, you'll likely get a family of House Wrens. They're adorable and eat bugs, too.

As always, click on any photo for a closer look. Don't forget to stop by Lisa's Chaos and Smiling Sally to see what macro and blue things this Monday brings.

  1. Very cool shots and very cute birds.

And 1000+ pics in one day? I don't think my indecisiveness could take it, trying to sort through them all.

  2. Great photos of the bluebirds. I love them also. We have a bluebird box, but the sparrows chase them away every year. So frustrating, I would be so thrilled if they would nest there.

  5. You painted these birds, didn't you?
    They can't be real.
They look identical to our UK robins, with a blob of blue paint on their wings.
I wonder if they are related.

  9. I think you did a remarkable job on capturing that pretty blue bird in so many different shots. Very nicely done. My first visit to your blog and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

  10. Thank you for all the kind words! When I figure out how to respond to each comment, I will. Until then, here's my mass response.
I'm still sorting through/ editing photos that are edit-worthy. It's getting easier to delete the truly bad ones.
Eastern bluebirds aren't seed eaters at all. They like bugs, berries, worms, and suet cakes. Although in my experience, they prefer juniper berries over anything.
Bluebirds and robins are both in the thrush family. Yep, they are cousins! The female bluebird looks an awful lot like our robin to me.
Well, I'm off to put up another bluebird box!
